Wichita Falls, TX — Two people were trampled to death by the animal at a camel farm Saturday.
Their bodies were found just after 2:30 p.m
The victims: 72 year-old Peggye McNair and 53 year-old Mark Mere.
Mere got into a pen with 3 camels, one male and two females. He says he got into the pen because the water trough had frozen over.
According to Duke, the male camel was in rut and was very agressive. The camel then charged Mere. As Mere tried to get out of the pen, Duke says McNair tried to close the gate but the camel then came after both of them and trampled them to death.
Deputies arrived on scene and say all three camels were acting very aggressive toward them.
He says the family of the camel farm owner gave permission for game wardens to put down the male camel.
