Authorities in Texas have say six cows were discovered dead on various properties along a state highway that spans three counties this week.

The Madison County Sheriff’s officials stated that while investigating the death of a 6-year-old cow, they received five similar reports in the area near College Station, spanning Madison, Brazos, and Robertson counties. The Sheriff’s office reported that other comparable mutilations have been reported across the United States, and authorities are collaborating to investigate.

Authorities said the 6-year-old cow had a clean, precise cut that removed the hide around one side of its mouth, as well as its tongue, with no trace of blood spillage. The remains of the cow were not scavenged by predators or birds, according to ranchers, who also noted that no signs of a struggle were found in the grass around the cow.

The Sheriff’s office noted that each cow had been mutilated in a distinct location, with no signs of struggle or disturbance.

Two of the cows had external organs removed in addition to being mutilated in a similar fashion. There were no footprints or tire tracks discovered in the vicinity of the deceased cows, according to the post.

As of now, the cause of death for all six cows is unknown, and authorities have not yet commented on the case.
