WATCH: (Scroll Down For Video) The Halloween holiday spirit was almost lost after a thief stole lights from a beloved display at a California ‘Halloween House.’

For the second year in a row the home on Deercreek Drive in Riverside lit up every night as Halloween approached with the faces of Jack-o’-Lanterns and bright blue, purple and green lights.

But the show almost went black on the eve of the holiday as the hooded thief disconnected expensive floodlights from the home of Melanie and Mark Betty and drove off in a white van.

He was captured on the couple’s security cameras Friday night.

Kevin and Amber Judd, who designed and created the show, posted about the theft on their company’s Facebook page Creative Lighting Displays.

The post received more than 100 comments from residents who loved the light show and were devastated by the news.

The Judds said the person took the time to unplug each item they stole, and the couple planned to file a police report would share the surveillance footage for awareness.

But that would soon prove unnecessary because just the very next day the thief had second thoughts.

He handed the stolen lights over in a backpack that he gave to an umpire at a local park, according to KTLA.

Melanie Betty said the thief even gave her an apology note, saying it was a stupid stunt he had pulled with his friends.

And so the show, which is this year was designed to fit the theme song from Ghostbusters, was able to go on.
