Thousands of vehicles have been left stranded in Bulgaria after farmers and truckers set up a series of protests on opposing sides of the border.

Truck drivers parked their vehicles along the road, which prevented any traffic from leaving the country.

Greek farmers used the same tactics on their side with tractors, preventing any vehicles for moving into the two countries.

Truckers and farmers have said that only cars transporting children or the sick will be allowed through the blockade.

Officials have said that over 800 trucks, six buses and over 300 cars have been stranded on the Greek side.

Over 1,000 trucks and trucks were left stranded on the Bulgarian side, which lasted for several miles.

The protest started out of anger caused by weeks of blockages carried out by the Greeks at the border.

The farmers have demonstrated for over a month at the border over tax reforms.

One truck driver reported to local media:

‘I’ve been here since 13:20 GMT on Monday. What do we have to do with Greek politics?

‘The Bulgarians are right to be angry. Who do the Greek think they are – the rulers of Europe?’
