Detectives in Nashville are investigating Monday night’s shooting inside an apartment at 2071 Oakwood Avenue that critically injured two-year-old Anthony Thorpe.

Anthony’s mother, Aaliyah Scales, 23, reported that Anthony’s father, Jeffery Thorpe, was visiting and had placed his firearm on a bed where Anthony picked up the gun and fired it. Anthony was struck in the head.

Jeffery Thorpe, 23, drove Scales and Anthony to Skyline Medical Center where he dropped them off. He did not return.

Anthony was transferred to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where he is in extremely critical condition. The gun has not been recovered.

Youth Services detectives are working to locate Jeffery Thorpe for questioning. He is also wanted on an outstanding aggravated assault warrant for allegedly pointing a handgun at a car containing Scales and Anthony during an argument last June.

Anyone seeing Jeffery Thorpe or knowing his whereabouts is asked to call the Department of Emergency Communication at 615-862-8600.
