MILWAUKEE – On Friday, a Wisconsin man was sentenced to 16 years in prison for shooting at a group of children who threw snowballs at his car in 2020.

Prosecutors had requested a 25-year sentence after the man, William Carson, was found guilty of two counts of first-degree reckless injury and five counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety in November.

According to court records, in January 2020, seven children were throwing snowballs at cars on Milwaukee’s north side, when Carson turned his car around, got out, and fired a gun at the group, injuring two children in the thigh and arm and grazing a third child’s jacket with a bullet.

“I’m asking you for leniency in my sentencing. I am asking for mercy in my sentencing,” Carson said. “I miss my family. I miss my kids.”

“There is this other side of you that is impulsive, reckless, violent – I think self-centered,” said Judge Michael Hanrahan.
