Over 1000 migrants attempted to storm the Channel Tunnel in a desperate bid to reach Britain today.

French police deployed tear gas at the vast crows just days before their illegal migrant camp is due to be destroyed.

One of the migrants reported to local media: “We are absolutely desperate, and need to get to England as quickly as possible.”

The migrants set off from the camp at around 9pm on Wednesday, by midnight most of them were close to the undersea link.

A police spokesperson said: ‘Riot control measures were used to keep them back,’

‘There were no recorded incursions into the tunnel. Members of the group were dispersed from the area in the early hours of the morning.’

‘Everything went calmly. We escorted the immigrants to stop the kind of trouble that we have seen in the town before.’

There are currently over 5,000 migrants living in the migrant camp.

The French Interior Minister said that the migrant camp eviction would be done by persuasion, respect and progressively.

Evicted migrants have already been offered accommodation in refitted containers.

They have even been offered shelter at around 100 accommodation centers around France.

The vast majority denied the offer.
