Witness statements to this point lead South Precinct detectives to believe that Jefferson and Green showed up at the apartment, pulled guns and tried to rob the residents. Two of them retrieved pistols and opened fire. During the exchange of shots, Jefferson was fatally wounded, Green was hit in the leg, and resident Toddrell Bell, 20, was critically wounded in the chest. Bell’s friends transported him to StoneCrest Medical Center in Smyrna before officers arrived.

A search of the apartment revealed more than two pounds of marijuana and cash. The investigation is continuing.
